Ever wonder how abortions are approved here in Israel?

One of the four exceptions to the penal law against abortions in Israel is an abortion due to embryopathy - a defect either in the baby or in the pregnancy that might threaten the mother's health. 3,741 abortions were approved under this exception in 2010 alone. Recently, an article in the Journal of Medical Ethics discussed the boundry lines (almost non-existant) of this exception.

Israeli Supreme Court to re-evaluate policy on "Wrongful - LIfe" cases

The Israeli Supreme Court has seven pending cases of "Wrongful Life" lawsuits where parents of children with disabilities, or the children themselves, are suing the medical establishment for failing to recommend abortion due to negligence in prenatal testing. Over 600 such cases have gone through the lower courts in the past few years and Judge Dorit  Beinisch, on the verge of retiring from the Supreme Court panel, is pushing to expedite the general ruling on principles for current and future suits before she retires from the bench.

Happy Jewish New Year 5772!

Happy Jewish New Year 5772!

Alina is just one of more than 100 babies saved through the counseling services of Be'ad Chaim in 2011. We celebrate every one of those new beginnings.

As we celebrate the Feast of Trumpets, traditionally the day the year begins, we hope in the Jewish Year of 5772 you, too, will share in the joy of new beginnings.
We wish you many blessing this coming year,

Abortion affects women on all levels

"Women are hard-wired for relationships—and a woman’s relationship to her baby is one of the most powerful of all, whether she realizes it or not.
The hard-wiring of the brain may explain many women’s disturbing
post-abortion feelings."
Does an abortion have longstanding effects on a woman? Does she struggle with regret, guilt, shame, recrimination and other side-effects?
