Carly and David's Story
Sun, 08/15/2010 - 13:25 — Tehila
We received a call from a very distraught husband who heard about us from a friend. David said that his wife was pregnant, but overcome with nausea and planning an abortion. Just a month before he had been released from prison after serving two very difficult years away from his wife and two sons. David was adamant that Carly should not abort, but he had no job and no way to support his family. Because Carly was too sick and weak to travel to the office, the counselor and I visited her in their tiny, one-room apartment. Carly was in bed – the same bed where she slept with her 10 year old and 5 year old son because she had no other beds. Her husband slept on the floor on a mattress. We could easily see Carly’s difficult predicament. She had no heat, no gas, no oven, and no room for the baby. After much discussion and a phone call to another humanitarian project, we were able to offer her rent subsidy for a larger apartment. Carly agreed to cancel her appointment for the abortion scheduled two days later. Within a few days this precious family moved into a three-room apartment. The kind landlord charges a very low rent. Generous friends of Be’ad Chaim donated beds, tables, chairs and an oven. Since then, David has found a job. Another non-profit organization began delivering cooked food to them while Carly’s not feeling well and a third organization provides groceries. We rejoice to see the blessing that has come to this family -a blessing that began when David took a stand for life. Their baby is due in late summer of 2009 and will receive help from the Operation Moses program. Update: Carly and her family gladly welcomed the birth of little Talia on the 4th of August. Talia is a beautiful baby with big brown eyes. Her name means "Dew of God" and she is featured in our new calendar in the month of July 2011. Carly recently visited the office with her younger son and small daughter and thanked us for the help we were able to extend to her and her family.
