On May 28th, women from all over the country gathered at the Gardens of Life (Ganei Chaim) by Latrun to participate in a PAS (Post Abortion Syndrome) workshop and plant trees for babies lost to abortion or miscarriage. Under the gently swaying trees, the women heard a moving testimony from Chaya Mizrahi. As she shared how abortion affected her life and that of her family, tears could be seen on some cheeks. Shortly after, women were given a form to write a letter to God expressing their regret or sorrow. For some of the women, this letter brought great release from pent up shame and regret. One woman, a poetess, had not been able to write poetry since she accepted the Lord several months ago. That night, after returning from the day spent at the gardens, she was filled with inspiration and wrote two songs in quick succession.

After the workshop, women were encouraged to plant trees along the property fence line. Planting new life in the garden can be a step in the restoration of joy and life lives affected by the loss of an unborn child. In addition to the 85 trees planted by participants, members of the board planted 100 more trees on behalf of women who aborted their children during the holacuast and the wars in Russia. These women are too elderly to come to the garden themselves and a donation was given to plant the trees on their behalf.

A quiet time of fellowship broke the solemn tone of the event and there seemed to be a spirit of openness and healing amongst the ladies as they sat to eat lunch together under the trees. We hope to continue having events such as this in the gardens, as women realize and respond to the call to repent and heal from past abortions.
