Newsletter December 2007

Dear Friends of Be'ad Chaim,

It is with thankfulness to God for the wonderful things that He has done that I write this letter. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Him and to see lives changed.

As we come to the close of 2007, please take a look with me at the worldwide statistics showing that this year  approximately 131 million babies were born and 45 million aborted. On December 25, the day when so many remember and rejoice at the birth of the Son of God, by 11:00am, there had been over 160,000 babies born and over 57,000 aborted. Here in Israel, the birth rate this year was approximately 140,000 live births and an estimated 50,000 babies aborted. . While these numbers are daunting, our eyes are on the Lord, our hope is in Him  and we gratefully serve Him as we save as many as possible from abortion.

Babies

We have been able to serve a much larger number of women this year primarily as a result of increased prayer and the Operation Moses program.

"Operation Moses" which began last January, like a baby, has grown very quickly in its first year! We now have  over 40 women  registered  nationally. Almost 30 women have already given birth and have received a completely furnished baby room including accessories. They are also receiving monthly deliveries of diapers and baby food. Two babies celebrated their first birthdays this month and will receive their last delivery including a birthday present!

Several women gave birth this month, including a Jerusalemite whose baby was born on December 25th!

For those who know some Israeli geography , let me tell you some of the cities where the babies have been born: Kiryat Shmoneh, Tiberius, Kryot (Haifa area), Zichron Yaakov, Yavne, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Petach  Tikva,  Jerusalem, Bet Shemesh, Maale Adumim, Beer Sheva, and various kibbutzes. We still haven't reach Eilat, but with God everything is possible! As you can imagine, this work grows through advertising and  by word of mouth, so we are looking forward to even more growth in the 2008 year.

Prayer

This work would have no foundation without the work of prayer. We are grateful for prayer groups meeting now in several cities including Beer Sheva, Tiberius, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Carmiel .  We thank those internationally who faithfully pray for our work and earnestly pray  to stop the shedding of innocent blood. "The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man accomplishes much." (James 5:16).

Support groups

A monthly meeting for new mothers and babies (both clients and other women) has begun in Jerusalem.
Each meeting includes a time for chatting, lunch, a short inspirational message, and a lesson on some topic of interest. Last month's session was a "hand's –on " baby massage lesson, and next month we'll learn about baby nutrition.

A similar group will begin soon in Tiberius, and we hope soon in other cities.

Litrature

The post abortion workbook, "Forgiven and Set Free" will be published soon. Randy Alcorn's book, "Pro-life Questions and Answers" is in the final editing stages, and the translation of Alcorn's book "Why Pro-life" is  nearly completed.

The "Beinenu" magazine, published in Hebrew and Russian, which promotes family values continues to be a wonderful source of inspiration for many. The magazine is well received in the local congregations and especially popular among the Russian speakers.   Our clients wait for the quarterly magazine and distribute to their friends.

Public Relations

There has been much publicity in the last few months regarding the pro-life work of Be'ad Chaim. A very positive article was published in the Jerusalem Post on Thursday, Nov.8th and republished in the International Jerusalem Post on November 23rd.  We were also interviewed for an article in the November issue of the Christian Edition of the Jerusalem Post.  Also in November, a Russian newspaper ran an article about our assistance program for the new mothers.

A Russian radio advertisement is  broadcasted since Tuesday, Dec. 24th ten times daily for a period of a month in the Haifa area , where the percentage of abortions is highest.

A five minute television clip has been made as part of a documentary on pregnancy and birth for one of the local television channels and will be broadcast on television 8 times in the next few weeks. This clip is available on our website in the Hebrew section. We hope to add translation in the future.

Conferences

- The Annual National Conference was held at Moshav Yad HaShmoneh on the 14th and 15th of December. The conference was called "From Generation to Generation" and it was thrilling to see God bring together like-minded people of all ages.   New this year was the high percentage of teens and the message on Friday night by an 18 year old who is passionate about stopping abortion through prayer and action.

These teens have begun what they call "sieges" around the country. They tape their mouths shut with red tape on which is written the word "CHAIM" (life) and sit outside of abortion clinics/hospitals/ or the Knesset Israeli Parliament. (A short clip of their work can be found on our website.)

- The Teen Conferences – coming up  the last weekend of January for young women and the first weekend of February for young men. The conferences this year will emphasize not only purity issues, but the greater challenge of being the man/woman who God has called us to be.

- Two different teaching conferences were held in November. International speaker Janice McBride taught on the need for a whole- hearted, pure pursuit of God.

Dr. Ney, well-known author in the field of healing after trauma, taught on the repercussions of abortion on women and their families. Both seminars were intense and highly productive.

How Can You Help Us

- Visit our website- www.beadchaim.org.il We are now on page four under the title "abortion", but the more visitors we have, the better our position on the web, so please visit us! If you have any suggestions, we'd love to hear them.

- Please feel free to send baby clothes in excellent condition to our Jerusalem office from where we ship packages to new moms all over the country according to need.

- Please pray for us! Weekly prayer notes are sent every Monday morning by e-mail  with specific prayer requests for women considering abortion who've phoned the counselors, our projects, etc. If you'd like to receive the confidential prayer notes, please e-mail our office.

- You are most welcome to distribute fliers in Hebrew! Recently a prayer partner "left" one of our fliers in her doctor's waiting area. A pregnant woman , who was considering abortion, picked it up, phoned us and is now continuing her pregnancy! Every small act that we do can make a difference!

Bookmarks are available on request in English or Hebrew to remind you and your prayer group to pray against abortion in Israel.

Prayer Requests

- Pray for funding for Operation Moses. May we always have the resources to provide for every mother and baby whom God brings to us.

-As Be'ad Chaim projects increase, our work  load and costs increase. Pray for wisdom as we expand and  for sufficient funds for our many projects, especially books, magazine, etc.

- Pray for more extended use of the Ultrasound machine. It is now used for several clients, but we would like to use  it for many more clients.

- Pray for doors to open for more extensive work within the Arab population, especially Bethlehem and East Jerusalem. Pray for the work in Nazareth to develop.

-Pray for the upcoming teen conferences.

-Pray for the books which are near completion

-Pray for excellent response to the radio advertising campaign and the upcoming television clip.

-Pray for a home for two clients who will give birth in January and have no place to go yet with their new babies. May this be the beginning of our ability to house new mothers.

-Pray for funding for the deliveries of two women who have no medical insurance in Israel. Births are usually covered by the national medical insurance, but these Turkish and Russian women have no legal status.

Thank you so much for your prayer support and care. As we stand together against  abortion, God, our anchor, on whom we have fixed our hope, will be glorified.

Wishing you a very blessed holiday season and New Year,

Sandy Shoshani
