June 2026 Newsletter

• By Sandy Shoshani

During our recent 2026-2027 Be’ad Chaim calendar photo shoot, it was remarkable to see mothers who once called our hotline, adamant about having an abortion, now joyfully competing for more photos with their babies. Seeing nearly twenty mothers beaming with pride, absolutely certain that her baby is the most wonderful baby ever born (as it should be), adoring the children they once felt forced to reject, is deeply rewarding.

Thank you for supporting Be’ad Chaim’s service turning hearts to love.

HALF OF THE WOMEN WHOM WE SERVE ARE MARRIED

It is usually assumed that abortions in Israel are predominantly sought by teenagers or unmarried women, but the data reveals a different trend: nearly half of all approved abortions are for married women. Teen pregnancies account for only approximately 7% of total registered abortions. Recent statistics indicate that legal abortions are highly accessible, requiring approval by “the termination of pregnancy committee” in every hospital, with 99.6% of applications approved. Some women choose to use private clinics to avoid the questions asked by the committee. Although the statistics are hard to track, it is estimated that half of all abortions are private. The primary reason for approval is pregnancy outside of marriage (~51%), followed by maternal health risks, including emotional health (~20%) and suspected fetal disabilities (~19%).

COUNSELOR DAY

What a blessing! Our incredible team of counsellors and staff, who work tirelessly to serve women with love, were treated to an amazing spa day thanks to some generous donors. From relaxing by the pool to well-deserved massages, it was a perfect day of fellowship and rejuvenation. What a joy to honor those who spend their lives serving others!

HAGIT & BABY GIRL HALLEL RACHEL

A year ago, at age thirty-nine and with four children including twins navigating health challenges and recent surgeries, Hagit felt she had no capacity for more. Though she initially decided on an abortion, a heartfelt conversation with our counselor and the sound of the baby’s heartbeat changed everything. Hagit realized she couldn't go through with it.

Today, Hallel (whose name means "praise") is a one-year-old ray of joy in their home. She loves listening to stories, looking at picture books, and dancing to music with her big sisters, even trying to sing along.

When the family recently faced the hardships of the war, they found comfort by sleeping together in the saferoom and not having to run to a public shelter. Though the conflict meant her husband was out of work for a few months, he has since returned to his job. Hallel is truly a blessing they never knew they needed.

Hagit writes: “I don’t have words enough to thank you for all the help you gave me, and thanks to you, Hallel Rachel lacked for nothing. I was always able to buy diapers, formula, wipes and all the other necessities with the monthly gift card. It was such a blessing and made a big difference in my life.”

TOVA & BABY BOY HADAR MEIR

At just twenty-five years old, Tova was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Living in Netivot with her young daughter, she spent the last two years barely seeing her husband, who was away serving in reserve duty in the army. Dealing with loneliness, financial strain, and fear for her husband’s life, an unexpected pregnancy felt like an impossible burden, leading her to consider an abortion. A crucial word from her sister-in-law led her to Be’ad Chaim instead.

The pregnancy was far from easy, forcing Tova to leave her job and deepening her depression. In January, despite her struggle, she found joy when their beautiful son Hadar was born quickly—in the back of an ambulance! With limited support from family, Tova has found a home away from home in our welcoming Be’er Sheva office. She loves coming in to choose clothes for the baby, connecting with our staff, and sharing with other mothers in similar situations. With her husband now choosing to enlist as a career soldier, this family can finally look forward to a more stable future. They are grateful for the care they found at Be’ad Chaim in their time of need.

YARDEN & BABY GIRL LIANA

At just sixteen, Yarden’s world turned upside down when she discovered she was pregnant. Despite having a boyfriend, the reality of pregnancy never seemed possible until exhaustion led to a shocking positive test. Afraid because she was so young, Yarden initially considered abortion.

However, sharing the news with her family brought a turning point: they introduced her to Be’ad Chaim and a counsellor named Oxana. With Oxana’s encouragement, Yarden’s fear transformed into hope, and she began to see her baby as a gift.

Despite a long, painful labor supported by her mother and boyfriend, Yarden’s perspective shifted forever the moment she held her daughter, Liana. All the suffering vanished, replaced by an indescribable love. Today, Yarden embraces her role as a mother, and the grandparents are overjoyed with their first grandchild. Looking back, Yarden knows that what she once feared is truly the best thing that ever happened to her.

LILY & BABY BOY MICHAEL

Lily and her husband had one four-year-old daughter. Then, at age thirty-nine, Lily felt so blessed by an unexpected pregnancy, viewing it as a "last chance" to expand her family. However, her joy was clouded by tight finances and physical challenges. A large chunk of her husband’s salary was going toward child support from his previous marriage. After an accident at work, Lily’s left arm was permanently damaged.

Adding to the pressure, their home lacks a safe room, forcing them to run to public shelters during the war, which left their four-year-old daughter traumatized. A friend who had been formerly assisted by us urged Lily to phone us for support. In March, during this immense stress, Lily welcomed a healthy baby boy named Michael. After the birth, she stayed with her mother, relying on family to help care for the newborn and her daughter.

NAOMI & BABY BOY MEIR

We received this emotional letter from new mother Naomi:

I called you with some very dark thoughts and one goal in mind, but from our very first conversation, something started to change. On the other end of the line were people who didn’t judge me, but instead truly listened, empowered me, made space for my pain, and above all, gave me hope to find a new perspective on my life. The conversations gave me strength, a new outlook, and rekindled goals I didn’t know I still had within me.

On February 11th, in the 35th week of my pregnancy, I gave birth to my son, Meir. Today, I can say with all my heart that the help from Be’ad Chaim goes far beyond financial or practical assistance. You offer true support, strengthening women in their most vulnerable seasons and providing the comforting feeling that "someone sees you" and you don’t have to cope alone.

I want to thank the donors from the bottom of my heart. Because of you, there are women who find light in the darkness, babies who get to live, and mothers who receive the power to begin again.

May you always be blessed with abundance, health and all good things. Naomi

DARIA & BABY BOY SAN MICHAEL

Daria, a married mother of an 18-month-old from Ofakim, was facing an unexpected pregnancy amidst financial hardship. Her husband was unemployed and she had the responsibility of caring for her ill mother. Overwhelmed, she phoned our hotline seeking an abortion, giving us the opportunity to speak with her, encourage her and offer her practical help through our Operation Moses Project. This support was crucial, empowering Daria to happily choose life for her baby. In January, after the baby miraculously turned from a breech position, Daria and her husband welcomed their adorable son San Michael, named in honor of her grandfather. With the relief of daycare subsidies from the government and her husband’s earnest search for employment, Daria and her family are finding hope and stability.

FIERA & BABY BOY IMRI DAVID

Fiera was only nineteen years old and weighed only 37 kg (81 lb) when she became pregnant. Doctors urged her to abort, claiming that her body wasn’t strong enough to sustain a pregnancy. Her boyfriend took no responsibility and disappeared. After speaking with her Be’ad Chaim counsellor, she agreed to give the baby a chance to grow. As time went on, the baby in the womb flourished. In April, Fiera went into labor and gave birth to her first-born son Imri. Sadly, there were many complications, and a C-section surgery became very infected, requiring further surgery and additional hospitalization of nearly a month. Fiera is still recovering. During all this time, her aunt has been caring for Imri. Just prior to the birth, the baby furniture provided by Operation Moses Project arrived. Her brother set up the baby bed. Fiera says it’s all so beautiful and just what she needs. Despite the trauma of the birth, she is getting to know and already deeply in love with her precious Imri. Thank you for your prayers for a full recovery for Fiera with no post-natal depression!
